The wonderful past of Cyprus is connected with the cult of the goddess Aphrodite. She emerged from the sea foam right here, in the vicinity of Paphos, in the marvellous place Petra tou Romiou, which name carries another legend. Already in the antiquity, the cult of the goddess of love attracted newcomers here from all over the world, like today tourists are attracted by beautiful beaches and a clean sea.
PAPHOS - in the antiquity, there were two settlements on the territory of Paphos: Old Paphos and New Paphos. Today New Paphos is inhabited and is the the fourth largest city in Cyprus. The city has a rich history: it was under Roman rule, Turkish, Venetian and British rule. From every age wonderful relics of the past have been preserved, thanks to which the city is entered onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. The unique floor mosaics in Roman villas are famous - one of the best-preserved in the region of the Mediterranean Sea. Today, Paphos is a renowned resort with gorgeous sandy beaches, of which there are more than 20 here. Many of them are distinguished by the Blue Flag certificate.
