A magical land of olive groves, vineyards, ancient ruins, rocky cliffs and picturesque beaches. Peloponnese is a corner of Greece, where with every step you can feel the presence of the Olympic gods and heroes of Homer's epics. This divine land, known for its wonderful climate, beautiful sea and hospitable residents is the perfect place for a sunny Greek holiday.

The southernmost part of mainland Greece – the Peloponnese peninsula – boasts an exceptionally rich history. It is here that the ancient Achaeans founded a powerful State, which then became the area of expansion of the Dorians. Several centuries later, Peloponnese was part of the Roman Empire, and then the Byzantines. The peninsula was occupied by the Crusaders, conquered by the Turks, and controlled by the Venetians. From 1830 it belongs to independent Greece. Being in the Peloponnese, you must see the ancient Olympia - the most famous place of worship of Zeus in ancient Greece. In the central point of Olympia there was a sanctuary, and in it one of the seven wonders of the world - the statue of Zeus by Phidias. Around the sanctuary sport facilities were built: a stadium, Hippodrome, gymnasium with a palestra and baths. Olympic games were held here every four years. Mycenae is the most famous fortress in Ellada according to the myth founded by Perseus - son of Zeus, the Greek hero. In the city you will find: the Acropolis, the Megaron, ramp, the throne room, the Propylaea, the Lion Gate, the City of Craftsmen, the Treasury Atreus. We can also recommend to enthusiasts of ancient history Corinth with the ruins of the Doric Temple of Apollo and Acrocorinth with the Greek Temple of Aphrodite, known for the activities of the daughters of Corinth. In the Peloponnese it is also worth seeing Nafplio, where a huge fortification complex has been preserved - Palamidia. In the heart of the peninsula is Arcadia - the mythical land of eternal bliss, harmony and prosperity. The northernmost point of continental Europe - Mani – enchants with its coastline and stunning fortresses. An ideal place for a stroll for active people is the Loussios Gorge, where tourist trails have been traced, on which you can see the historic monasteries, or the Vouraikos Gorge with its gear train. The peninsula in the shape of a Mulberry leaf is bathed in the waters of the Ionian and Aegean seas, which creates great conditions for swimming, watersports and cruises along the coast. Here there are many charming, small towns, ideal for a summer holiday. Pyrgos guarantees typical Greek landscapes, many places for walks and rest. Skafidia lies by a long beach with fine sand, which encourages you to take a sunbath. Katakolo is full of small traditional taverns and cafes, where you can taste the local cuisine. Located on the blue Bay of Patras – Niforeika – offers sand and shingle beaches surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation. In the nearby small town of Kato Achaia, you can find many shops, taverns and cafes. Kalamata and its lively seaside boardwalk, which is approx. 5 km long, is not only the tourists' favourite place. There are many taverns, kafenions and clubs here which are open until late. In the centre there is an interesting Archaeological Museum, and in the northern part of the city rises the most important monument: the castle of Geoffrey Villehardouin from the 13th century. The festival of dance held in the summer, which lasts a few days, is also an attraction. To the east of Kalamata you can admire one of the most beautiful coastal routes: on one side the Taygetus Mountains, on the other side, the perfectly clear sea. The route leads through Kardamyla, Stoupa, Agios Nikolaos to the region of Mani with traditional houses-castles. Kalamata is famous for the terrific quality of food products. Olive oil and olives from Kalamata are well-known throughout the world – the best in Greece, as are figs and raisins. It is worth trying the local wines, ouzo and other alcohols produced by some of the oldest distilleries in Greece, as well as the salty sfela cheese. In the sweet department, pastels with honey and sesame seeds are tempting. As a souvenir from the region of Kalamata you can bring back silk handkerchiefs and scarves.
