Here the most powerful Greek god was born - Zeus, it was also here that around 3000 BC the civilization of Minoans was established, which gave birth to European civilization. Crete is one of the most charming and bizarre places on Greek land, which will be remembered for a long time. What makes the island so special? It is hard to imagine Crete without her proud locals, so open and hospitable. Crete is also beauty of nature, unusual diversity of beaches and landscapes, as well as a multicultural and turbulent history, of which even the earliest traces have survived until today. Everyone will find something here for themselves; beaches - from sandy to shingle and rocky, wide and endless, narrow, scenically squeezed in between rocky coasts, crowded or cut off from the world. Gorgeous mountain ranges, deep gorges and legendary grottos await here for enthusiasts of hiking. Whoever wishes to feel the spirit of history should visit the exciting archaeological sites, ancient palaces, enormous Venetian fortresses, Turkish mosques or Byzantine churches decorated with beautiful frescoes, scattered around the entire island. And finally, the exquisite Cretan cuisine, abundant in fresh herbs, vegetables, fish, meat and seafood, all prepared in hundreds of ways. It is also worth trying the local wines, such as the unusually tasting resinous Retsina or the strong local drink called raki, which we will probably often be treated with.

In Crete two world harmoniously coexist with one another: the modern and cosmopolitan, which we will find in big cities and tourist resorts, and traditional - still present in mountain villages where life goes on in a rhythm of hundreds of years ago, away from civilization and the achievements of the 20th century. You might want to go to one of these villages at least once to feel as though time had been pushed back hundreds of years!

The tourist base in Crete is developed primarily along the north coast. The island and its tourist destinations have much to offer to both enthusiasts of vibrant resorts, and those wishing to relax in small towns, in peace and quiet.

We invite you to visit the Queen of the Greek islands!

HERAKLION

The capital of Crete is a place where tourists come from all over the world to spend an unforgettable holiday on the beautiful beaches of the island, in vibrant resorts or charming corners. In the area of Heraklion are the ruins of the famous Palace of Knossos, regarded as the mythical labyrinth.

Bali - an increasingly popular tourist destination, scenically situated by three bays, on a hill, from where there is a unique view of the sea and the mountains that emerge directly from it. Enwrapped in narrow, cosy streets, the centre is full of shops, bars, taverns and cafes; in the season a disco is open here, and the charm of the place is completed by the picturesque port that is situated near the centre. The beaches of Bali are located in bays, the vast majority being sandy; tourist can take advantage of the many various watersports and the diving school. Bali is located roughly halfway between Rethymnem and Heraklion, practically in the middle of the island, which makes it ideal as a base for exploring all of Crete.

Aghia Pelagia - a known tourist resort located by a beautiful bay, which annually attracts hundreds of tourists, among others, with its sandy beaches and beautiful surroundings. In the city centre there are souvenir shops, mini-markets, bars, taverns and restaurants; a romantic dinner in one of the beautifully decorated taverns situated right by the sea will certainly be an unforgettable experience. On the beaches that are cleansed by crystal clear waters, visitors can take advantage of the offer of watersports. The picturesque, mountainous area provides great conditions for unforgettable walks and admiring the beautiful views. Aghia Pelagia is approx. 25 km from Heraklion, local buses provide convenient connections in all directions. Approximately 10 miles north-east of Aghia Pelagia is the island of Dia - one of the most famous diving sites in Crete.

Hersonissos - the most popular tourist destination on the east coast, considered to be the most entertaining on the island thanks to the impressive number of clubs, bars and discos. In the Center there are many shops, taverns and restaurants, as well as sports centres offering a variety of activities. Beaches are mostly sandy or sand and shingle. Many of them are located in coves. On most of the beaches all watersports are available. Amateurs of water fun can also take advantage of the offer of well-known waterparks located in the area, such as: Aqua Splash or Star Beach Water Park.

Anissaras - a small tourist destination situated only approx. 2.5 km from Hersonissos, which is actually its western suburb; it is known for its lovely sand and shingle beach; in the centre there are shops, bars and taverns.

Gouves - a rather peaceful spot is a very well-developed tourist base approx. 10 km from Hersonissos; it has a center with a romantic seafront boardwalk, along which shops, bars and restaurants are located. The beaches are mostly sandy, often in coves, washed by clean, blue water; a wide range of watersports is also available. Local buses provide regular connections to Hersonissos.

Stalida - a popular town located between two vibrant resorts – Malia (approx. 3 km) and Hersonissos (approx. 5 km). The Centre of the seaside boardwalk offers all sorts of shops, bars, taverns and cafes, as well as several clubs. The long, sandy beach offers great conditions for relaxation; a rich offer of watersports is available for the active.

Agios Nikolaos - a well-known holiday destination by the gorgeous Mirabello Bay. Once a small fishing village, it is now a vibrant resort. In its centre is a port, the picturesque Lake Voulismeni, by which taverns, cafés and restaurants are situated. The town is known for its wonderful atmosphere and many activities for tourists, you can also admire the traditional architecture with small houses.

Sissi - a former fishing village, today it attracts more and more tourists, not only with its breathtaking views, but also a very well-developed tourist base. It is an extremely charming holiday spot in the north-western part of Crete with a small centre and picturesque port, surrounded by cosy taverns and cafes.

Elounda - a small town in the beautiful Mirabello Bay, close to the famous Aghios Nikolaos. Among others, boats leave from the not too large harbour to Spinalonga island.

IERAPETRA

Ierapetra - the southernmost city of Europe, situated by the warm Libyan Sea, only 300 km from Africa. Already in ancient times, thanks to its location, it was an important point on trade routes. The turbulent history has left many interesting monuments, of which the most important is the Venetian fortress by the port with colourful fishing boats and "Napoleon's House", where as tradition tells, Napoleon Bonaparte was to spend the night here on his way to Egypt. The old city of Ieraperta has retained its authentic atmosphere, there are picturesque alleys here and Turkish buildings and a mosque have remained here. The centre of Ierapetra's social life is the seaside boardwalk that runs along the shingle beach. By the boardwalk there are many lovely taverns, ouzerias and kafeneons, where you can try the traditional Greek cuisine, or sit down for a glass of ouzo in the company of local Greeks. In the city of Ierapetra there are three beaches. It was on one of them that Anthony Quinn in the famous film "Zorba the Greek" danced the famous sirtaki.

CHANIA

It is the former capital of Crete, as well as the largest and most important city in the western part of the island. It is located by Chania Bay, on the site of ancient Kidonia, which traces can be found in the city.

Many consider Chani to be the most beautiful city in Crete; its beautiful and varied architecture reminds of Venetian and Turkish occupation, dozens of small streets and corners within the old city encourage constant strolls, and the bars, cafes and taverns open until late invite to you to cross their hospitable thresholds. It is also worth mentioning that Chania is considered to be a symbol-city, because this is where the movement to liberate Crete began. For tourists who decide to stay in the area of Chania, there are fantastic landscapes, which compensate for the lack of any significant historical monuments; beaches in Fallassarnie, in Gramvousa and Elafonisi are some of the most beautiful in Crete; passage through the Samaria Gorge is a treat - the longest gorge in Europe, situated in the Lefka Ori Mountains.

Maleme - a peaceful tourist destination, approx. 16 km west of Chania and approx. 5 km from Platanias, regular local buses provide connection; it has a centre with shops, bars and taverns and a disco; the beaches here are much less crowded than in the more popular tourist destinations like Platanias and Aghia Marina, most are shingle and rocky beaches. Maleme is known for the fact that in 1941 German attack began here, after which Maleme became the centre of the most fierce battles in the heroic Battle of Crete.

Platanias, Aghia Marina - one of the most vibrant tourist destinations on the west coast; countless taverns, bars, clubs and discos will not disappoint amateurs of partying till dawn; in addition there is a very wide range of watersports on the beaches and diving centres; the beaches are mainly sandy.

Kastelli - also called Kissamos, is a magnificent place surrounded by beautiful landscapes, by Kissamos Bay. The town has a population of approx. 3000 inhabitants and is the capital of the region of the same name. Is known for its production of wine and olive oil. Despite the dynamic development, Kastelli retains its genuine nature and you can feel an authentic Cretan atmosphere here. Hospitable residents, charming streets and shops await tourists. Taverns and cafés are concentrated mainly in the centre and along the seaside boardwalk; 2 discos are open in the season. It is easy to get to Chania using local transport, and the small port provides regular connections with many islands and the Greek mainland.

RETHYMNO

The third largest and extremely charming city in Crete. Its main feature is the specific architecture that is a testament of the alternating reign of Venetians and Turks. It is mainly famous for its port, which is towered over by the Fortezza erected by the Venetians, with a mosque of Sultan Ibrahim built on the apex, which fit impressively into the panorama of the old city.

Adelianos Campos - a small town situated just 7 km from Rethymno, which you can reach easily using local bus connections. In the centre that stretches along the road there are supermarkets, shops, taverns and cafes; the beautiful sandy beach stretches right to the centre of Rethymno.

Missiria – the small town right next to Rethymno (approx. 3.5 km) has an extensive sandy beach and centre with shops and cafes. Local buses run regularly to the centre of Rethymno, you can get there in a pleasant way by walking along the beach.

PLAKIAS

A region that until recently was little visited by tourists, is now developing quickly thanks to the beautiful beaches and interesting areas. Plakias was still a small fishing settlement half a century ago, today it is a cosy tourist town with taverns and shops approx. 35 km from Rethymno. The small Damnoni Bay facing south provides many sunny days, and the surrounding hills with their tourist routes encourage walking.
In close vicinity to Plakias, on the eastern side of the bay, there are several beautiful sandy beaches, the nearest is Peligremnos, the next one however is more well-known - Damnoni. In the area you can find a couple of small deserted beaches, ideal for relaxing in peaceful surroundings. Some of them are the small Ammoudi, Schinaria, and west of Plakias: Gavdolimano and the most beautiful with velvety sand and crystal water - Souda.

Atrakcje w regionie

CHANIA

W architekturze Chanii do dziś można zauważyć wpływy weneckie i tureckie.

RETHYMNON

To urocze miasto portowe, którego starówka nosi wyraźnie ślady wpływów weneckich i tureckich.

STALIDA
