Panama Canal A symbol of the country and one of the most popular "shortcuts" in the world. The canal connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean is the work of the French and Americans, which have claimed over 20,000 lives. The canal is a gold mine for Panama as you need to pay approx. 30,000 dollars for crossing. Tracing history The capital of Panama with the same name is a place where the rich history of the city and the country can be seen best. The mandatory points are Panama Viejo - the ruins of the first Panama, burned by pirates and Casco Viejo - the historical center of the city with buildings from colonial times. It's worth seeing Avenida Balboa with its boardwalk and breathtaking views, modern skyscrapers in the financial district and the Museum of Biodiversity, designed by Frank Gehry - a colorful building, one of the most important architectural points on the map of Panama. Shopping You can buy Panamanian handicrafts at local markets - jewelry, painted ceramics, colorful Indian scarves, and in shopping centers there are boutiques of the most popular world brands. Panama on the plate Panama offers its guests an excellent Ceviche, which means pieces of fish "cooked" in lime juice with additives, carimañola, which means fried yucca root stuffed with meat or patacones - fried plantains. Also seafood and fresh, tropical fruits are popular. For the dessert Raspao - ice cone sprinkled with fruit syrup and condensed milk. Perfect to cool off! At the Indians place, you can try their traditional dishes served on the leaves, and for culinary explorers - Iguana dishes. Suitcase of a traveler The obvious choice will be a panama hat, but on the return journey it is also worth taking a hand-made "pollera", a traditional skirt made of different colorful materials, decorated with flowers, for example. Among the souvenirs, also organic coffee is popular, one of the best in the world. Also hand-embroidered scarves and handmade jewelry will be a great souvenir. In Panama, also tasty beers are produced, such as "Panama" or "Balboa" with Vasco Núñez de Balboa on the label, mini-brewery - La Rana Dorada or Casa Bruja artisanal brewery, which offers also beer tasting and visiting the building.
