The Portuguese claimed that the city was bigger and more powerful than Rome at the time. The place covers an area of 26 km² and lies among the rocks and stones by the River Tangabhadra. Visiting, among others: the Temple of Vittali from the 13th century, the Temple of Virupaksha from the 14th century, elephant stables, Lotus Mahal and many other monuments from the 12th and 13th centuries.
