Local excursions
Around the Rodos Island — the most beautiful corners and authentic, local tastes! A trip starts in Filerimos (in low season) or in the Butterfly Valley (in high season), then a walk through the streets of Kamiros, called the “Greek Pompeii”. Time for photos with picturesque ruins of the Kritinia castle. In the village of Embona a visit to a local winery with wine tasting and the possibility to taste, among others, coffee ouzo. Lunch in a traditional Greek tavern. A ride to Monolithos and tasting the local honey, delicious olive oil and fiery water “Souma” and all these with a view of the ruins of the medieval castle, build on a giant rock. Return to hotel. Lindos — unforgettable views and encounter with the history! Lindos is a place with the most beautiful views on the island, where on the hill with the ancient Acropolis, Knights built a stronghold that dominates over today’s city. Conquering the Acropolis is one of the main attractions, and the view from the summit of St Paul's Bay and picturesque white city compensates the trouble of the 30-min walk. Half-day trip. Cruise to Symi island - an expedition to the small, scenic and wild islet off the coast of Turkey. Once it was the richest island of the Dodecanese, thanks to catching famous sponges called “gold of Dodecanese”. The cruise begins in Rhodes, during the cruise you can admire the panoramic view of the islands of Chalki, Thilos, Sesklia and a fragment of the coast of Turkey. In Symi exploring the monastery of Archangel Michael Panormitis, an important pilgrimage centre and the port and town of Symi, which impresses with its terrace-built houses with colorful facades. This is also an opportunity to learn about the method of catching sponges at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Free time - if you would like to you can take the 500 steps called Kali Strata to Chorio, a higher part of the city with an observation point. Day trip. Cruise to Chalki Island — relaxing trip to one of the smallest island in the Dodecanese archipelago. Departure from Skala Kamiros port and cruise (approx. 1 h) to Chalki, an island with stunning sandy beach, crystal clean water and neoclassical architecture of the buildings in the harbor. A short walk around the city of Chalki with a guide and free time for sunbathing and individual sightseeing. It is also worth to visit one of the local taverns and taste “halkitiki makaroni” - a dish made of a hand-made pasta dried in the Greece sun. Day trip. Price - approx. 43 EUR.
