We invite you to embark on an Italian adventure to Apulia - a fascinating region with a unique climate, where time flows slower, and the inhabitants are smiling and friendly. This picturesque land located on the "heel" and "spur" of the Italian boot delights with its pristine beaches, azure sea, and atmospheric fishing villages. Tourists are also enchanted by the sleepy towns and green olive groves. In the kingdom of excellent wine and olive oil, the attachment to tradition is visible in many cultural events, local festivals, and fairs. History enthusiasts will find traces of ancient Greeks and Romans, Normans, Emperor Frederick II, and Spanish Bourbons. They all left behind interesting monuments, painstakingly restored and accessible to tourists. There are many worth visiting places here, including the regional capital - Bari, the port city of Brindisi, the extraordinary stone houses of Alberobello (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site), as well as the white city of Ostuni and the baroque town of Lecce, known as the Florence of the South.

STOLICA REGIONU – BARI
Get to know Bari - the city of Queen Bona's burial, immerse yourself in the maze of its narrow alleys, and discover local flavors in charming taverns. The capital of Apulia is a beautiful city where many places are worth seeing, including the Basilica of San Nicola, where Bona Sforza is buried, and the Cathedral of San Sabino. Be sure to take a walk in the old town to stop for a moment at Piazza del Ferrarese and Piazza Mercantile, where the daily life of the inhabitants revolves around, and also see the Swabian Castle of Bari. Throughout the city, the scent of fresh laundry, coffee, and tomato sauce fills the air - it's a place where you simply want to be! Find a moment to stop and try local delicacies with a cup of real Italian espresso.

BRINDISI
A vibrant port city with an atmospheric old town! It is the port that is the most iconic place in all of Brindisi. Since ancient times, it has been a center of trade with the Greeks and the East, contributing to the growth of the city's importance and wealth. Today, it serves as both a tourist attraction and a commercial, industrial, and transshipment port. Impressive in size and beautiful in views - it's its trademark! During your visit to this city, be sure to see the Roman columns dating back to the 2nd century, made of marble, the Tancredi Fountain, and the beautiful city gates: Porta Lecce and Porta Napoli. Definitely try local products such as sheep and goat cheeses, almonds, olives, and wine from traditional vineyards.

ALBEROBELLO
The extraordinary town with fairytale-like trulli houses is an absolute must-see in the region! Trulli are charming cottages with stone cone-shaped roofs, built by the inhabitants using limestone slabs without mortar. Thanks to their thick stone walls and small windows, they provided warmth in winter and coolness in summer. The town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Besides Alberobello, you can also see such unique and breathtaking scenery in Locorotondo and Cisternino.

OSTUNI
One of the most beautiful places on the Adriatic coast of Apulia is the area around Ostuni, with sandy, gravel, and cliff beaches along the transparent sea. This white town captivates with the atmosphere of bygone times and a beautiful medieval old town. Take a stroll through the narrow side streets, don't be afraid of small passages and numerous stairs - if you get lost, it's even better because you'll get to know the real life of the city! During your trip, be sure to stop at its highest part, where the Archbishop's Palace and the 15th-century Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are located. It's also worth paying attention to the ruins of the 14th-century church of Madonna del Carmine and the remains of the city fortifications, from which you can enjoy beautiful views of the surroundings and the Adriatic Sea.

LECCE
The city known as the Florence of the South, located in the heart of the Salento Peninsula on the spur of the Italian boot, is famous for its beautiful architecture in the style called "Lecce Baroque," but you will also see numerous monuments from the Roman Empire period. During your visit, take a longer walk through the historic old town. Piazza Sant'Oronzo, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Roman Theater, and Piazza del Duomo are just a few of the points on the city map that are worth visiting. Stay longer at the Celestine Palace from the 17th century and the Roman amphitheater.

WHAT ELSE IS WORTH VISITING
Near Ostuni, there is the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, where you can admire the beauty of Mediterranean nature. Also, visit Torre Canne, known not only for its beaches but also for natural hot springs with healing properties and a picturesque lighthouse. Another point on the map is Torre Santa Sabina, whose highlight is the 12th-century observation tower. Today, it is known for its beaches, and the rocky sections are excellent for diving. On the opposite side of the "heel" along the Ionian Sea, in the Gulf of Taranto, long sandy beaches await tourists, stretching all the way to the border with the neighboring Basilicata region.

Attractions in the region

TROPEA

Tropea is considered the most beautiful and fashionable city in Calabria, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Mediterranean." It is situated on a picturesque seaside cliff and showcases Mediterranean architecture. Explore the charming city center, where the main attractions include the Norman Cathedral and the Santa Maria dell'Isola Tropea Church. There are also numerous excellent restaurants and bars to enjoy. From the upper part of the town, you can admire the magnificent view of the Aeolian Islands. At the foot of the seaside cliff, you'll find a beautiful sandy beach.

PIZZO

Pizzo is a town with a charming old town located on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its most famous landmark is the 15th-century castle, where the French general Joachim Murat was imprisoned and executed. Near the old town, you'll find the interesting Piedigrotta Church, built into a rock and adorned with numerous sculptures. One of the local specialties that Pizzo is known for is the "tartufo di Pizzo," delicious chocolate ice cream.

REGGIO DI CALABRIA

Reggio di Calabria is a city located on the Strait of Messina, with its origins dating back to 720 BCE. It is worth visiting the National Museum, which houses the most precious artifact from the city's early settlers: the Bronze Warriors (Bronzi di Riace) - two Greek statues dating back approximately 2500 years, attributed to Phidias. The city also features several small churches, the ruins of the 15th-century Aragonese Castle, and a seaside promenade offering magnificent views of the Sicilian coast and Mount Etna. It is said that you can sometimes observe the mysterious phenomenon of a mirage here. The surroundings of Reggio are known for the cultivation of bergamot, a bitter orange used, among other things, to flavor Earl Grey tea.

DIAMANTE

Diamante is a picturesque town located on a small cape and is a well-known resort destination with beautiful beaches. Since the 1980s, it has also gained fame as the "city of murals." The whitewashed walls of the houses feature over 150 brightly colored murals created by artists from around the world. The initiative was started by Milanese artist Nani Razzetti. Since 1992, Diamante has been hosting the annual Peperoncino Festival in early September, dedicated to the spicy chili pepper, one of Calabria's culinary symbols.

SCYLLA

Scylla is a town located near Reggio di Calabria, on the Strait of Messina. It is believed to be the place where the mythical Scylla, a beautiful girl transformed into a terrifying sea monster by Circe, as described by Homer in the Odyssey, terrorized sailors. Today, the main attraction of the town is its beautiful beach and the Ruffo Castle, located on a promontory, offering a magnificent view of the Strait of Messina.

SYBARIS EXCAVATIONS

The remains of an ancient city known for its wealth and prosperity. It is from Sybaris that the term "sybarite" originated. Sybaris is located on the Ionian Coast, and today it is a small town, but in ancient times, it was likely one of the largest cities in the world, with a population of around 100,000. Sybaris has long been a puzzle for archaeologists. After years of ongoing excavations, ruins of houses, baths, the outline of the main street (decumanus), and fragments of columns have been discovered. A designated part of the excavation site, covering about 1,000 hectares (only about 10 hectares of which have been explored so far), is accessible to visitors.

GERACE

Gerace is one of the most beautiful towns in Calabria, located scenically on the Ionian Sea on a cliff. It is often called the "holy city" due to the large number of churches found there. The town features the ruins of medieval defensive walls and a Norman castle. The most important building in Gerace is the 11th-century cathedral, allegedly with columns from Locri. Other interesting churches include Santa Maria del Mastro, San Giovanello, and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.

LOCRI

Locri is a town on the Ionian Sea that was a major power during the Hellenistic period. Well-preserved remains of ancient walls, Greek temples, and a theater can be found here.

CAPO COLONNA

Capo Colonna is the easternmost point of Calabria, featuring a famous solitary column - a remnant of the ancient temple of Hera Lacinia. The cape was once called Capo Lacinio, and then Capo Colonne, referring to the many columns that remained from the temple. As the other columns were used to construct different structures, only one remained, leading to the name Capo Colonna.
